American Herring Gull

The American Herring Gull is a large, robust gull found along the coasts of North America. Adults have a white head, neck, and underparts, with a pale gray back and wings. They have a yellow bill with a red spot near the tip and pink legs. Juveniles are mottled brown and gradually acquire adult plumage over several years. These gulls are opportunistic feeders, scavenging for food along shorelines and in urban areas. They nest in colonies on coastal islands and feed in a variety of habitats, including beaches, estuaries, and garbage dumps. The American Herring Gull is a common and widespread species with a stable population.
