Anthus rubescens
The American Pipit is a small, slender bird with a streaked brown back, white underparts, and a thin bill. It is known for its distinctive habit of constantly bobbing its tail while foraging on the ground. This species breeds in open tundra and alpine meadows, and during migration and winter, it can be found in a variety of open habitats, including fields, shorelines, and mudflats. American Pipits are often seen in flocks, and their high-pitched, tinkling calls are a common sound in their habitats. They primarily feed on insects and seeds, using their sharp eyesight to spot prey on the ground. This species is known for its long-distance migrations, with some individuals traveling from the Arctic to as far south as South America.
