Amethyst-throated Sunangel Heliangelus amethysticollis is a hummingbird of the Andes in South America, breeding from southern Ecuador to north-western Bolivia. It is a member of the Trochilidae family and was described by d'Orbigny and Lafresnaye in 1838. The species is a sedentary bird of wet montane forest, including cloudforest and elfin forest, and it is most often found inside closed woodland rather than at the edge. Its range also reaches Peru, and the nominate form extends from southern Peru into north-western Bolivia as far as Cochabamba Department.
