Ancash Tapaculo

Ancash Tapaculo, Scytalopus affinis, is a bird of the tapaculo family found in western Peru. It lives in high Andean grassland and stony ground with grass, and is often seen close to Polylepis woodland or Gynoxys shrubs. It was first treated as part of Magellanic Tapaculo, but was later recognised as a separate species after differences in its vocalisations were noted. The species was described by Zimmer in 1939 and is known from Ancash, La Libertad, Huánuco and Lima.
