Andean Cock-of-the-rock
Rupicola peruvianus
The Andean Cock-of-the-rock is a striking bird found in the Andean cloud forests of South America. Males are known for their vibrant orange plumage and distinctive half-moon crest, while females are a more subdued brown color. These birds are known for their elaborate courtship displays, where males gather at leks to impress females with their bright colors and loud calls. They feed on fruits, insects, and small vertebrates, and play an important role in seed dispersal within their habitat. Unfortunately, habitat loss and hunting pose threats to their populations.
