Andean Cock-of-the-rock

Heterocercus linteatus

The Andean Cock-of-the-rock is a striking bird found in the Andean cloud forests of South America. Males are known for their vibrant orange plumage and prominent fan-shaped crest, while females have more subdued plumage. These birds are known for their elaborate courtship displays, where males gather at leks to perform acrobatic displays to attract females. They primarily feed on fruits, insects, and small vertebrates. Unfortunately, habitat loss and fragmentation are major threats to their populations, leading to a decline in numbers in some areas.
