Andean Metaltail

Metriopelia aymara

The Andean Metaltail, or Metriopelia aymara, is a species of bird found in the Andes mountains of South America. It is known for its distinctive iridescent green and blue plumage, with a contrasting white belly. This small bird is well adapted to high-altitude environments, often seen foraging for nectar from alpine flowers. Its long, pointed bill and specialized tongue allow it to access the nectar from deep within the flowers. The Andean Metaltail is an important pollinator for many high-altitude plants, contributing to the biodiversity of its habitat.
