Andean Parakeet

Bolborhynchus orbygnesius

The Andean Parakeet (Bolborhynchus orbygnesius) is a small parrot species found in the Andes mountains of South America. These parakeets have a predominantly green plumage with a hint of blue on the wings and a yellowish-green wash on the underparts. They have a distinctive red patch on their shoulders. Andean Parakeets are social birds often found in flocks, and they are known for their high-pitched, chattering calls. They primarily feed on seeds, fruits, and vegetation. Their habitat includes high-altitude cloud forests, scrublands, and grasslands. Due to habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade, the Andean Parakeet faces conservation challenges.
