Spinus spinescens (Bonaparte, 1850)
Andean Siskin, Spinus spinescens, is a finch of the Fringillidae family that breeds in Colombia and Venezuela. It is a bird of the northern Andes, where it occurs in subtropical and páramo zones. Its usual haunts are scrub and low bushes in open cloud or elfin forest, along forest edges, on open hillsides with scattered trees or bushes, and sometimes near cultivation. It is often seen in pairs or small flocks, and may perch high in trees while feeding on or near the ground. The adult male has a black cap, while the female lacks it.
