Andean Snipe

Anarhynchus alticola

The Andean Snipe (Anarhynchus alticola) is a medium-sized wader found in the high-altitude grasslands and wetlands of the Andes mountains in South America. This elusive bird is well-adapted to its harsh alpine environment, with a cryptic plumage that provides excellent camouflage among the grasses and rocks. The Andean Snipe is known for its distinctive aerial display during the breeding season, where it performs acrobatic flights and calls to attract mates. This species is primarily insectivorous, feeding on a variety of invertebrates found in its alpine habitat. Due to its remote and inaccessible range, the Andean Snipe's population and ecology are not well-studied.
