Orochelidon andecola

The Andean Swallow (Orochelidon andecola) is a small passerine bird native to the Andean region of South America. It is characterized by its distinctive forked tail and iridescent blue-black plumage on the upperparts. These agile aerial foragers are often seen darting through the air, catching insects on the wing. They are highly social birds, often nesting in colonies and displaying remarkable aerial acrobatics during courtship. The Andean Swallow is closely associated with high-altitude habitats, including mountainous regions, cliffs, and open areas near water. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and pollution, the population status of this species is currently classified as Least Concern by the IUCN.
