Angola Waxbill

Coccopygia bocagei Shelley, 1903

Angola Waxbill, Coccopygia bocagei, is a waxbill of western Angola in Africa, placed in the family Estrildidae and first described by Shelley in 1903. It is the Angola form of an estrildid finch and is endemic to that part of the country. Its key distinction is the yellowish belly and undertail coverts, which set it apart from the swee waxbill, where those parts are grey. The species is also known for a grey crown, pale grey breast, olive-green back and wings, bright red rump, black tail, and a bicoloured bill.
