Anhinga anhinga

The Anhinga, also known as the snakebird, is a water bird found in the southeastern United States, Central and South America. It is known for its long, slender neck, pointed bill, and distinctive habit of swimming with only its head and neck above the water. Anhingas are expert fishers and often hunt by spearing fish with their sharp bills. They prefer freshwater habitats such as swamps, marshes, and slow-moving rivers. Their plumage is predominantly black with white streaks on the wings and a silvery-white patch on the back. Anhingas are considered a species of least concern by the IUCN.
