Pitta anerythra

The Anjouan Pitta, scientifically known as Pitta anerythra, is a small, brightly colored bird found in the forests of Anjouan, a small island in the Comoros archipelago. This species is known for its striking plumage, featuring a combination of vibrant blues, greens, and reds. The Anjouan Pitta is a ground-dwelling bird that forages for insects and small invertebrates amidst the leaf litter of the forest floor. Its distinct call can often be heard echoing through the dense vegetation. Unfortunately, due to habitat loss and fragmentation, the population of the Anjouan Pitta is declining, and it is currently listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List.
