Otus capnodes (Gurney, JH Sr, 1889)
Anjouan Scops Owl, Otus capnodes, is an owl found only on Anjouan in the Comoro Islands, where it lives in remnant upland forest, degraded woodland and plantations. It is linked to large trees on steep slopes, especially where cavities are available for nesting and roosting. The bird shows chocolate and rufous colour phases, and its ear-tufts are very small for a scops owl. The chocolate form has fine buff barring on the head and neck, while the rufous form has stronger markings on the belly.
