Annobon Scops Owl

Otus feae (Salvadori, 1903)

Strigidae — Owls

Annobon Scops Owl, Otus feae, is an owl that breeds on Annobón in the Gulf of Guinea, Africa. It was described by Salvadori in 1903. It is treated as a separate species from the African scops owl, although a 2019 genetic study found little difference between them. The bird was once reported as common in wooded places on the island at 400–500 metres above sea level. It is similar in appearance to that owl, but has a shorter wing, shorter tarsi, a longer tail and paler barring on the underwing.
