Chiroxiphia bokermanni
The Araripe Manakin is a small, critically endangered bird species endemic to the Araripe Plateau in northeastern Brazil. Males are striking with bright red plumage and a contrasting black cap, while females have olive-green upperparts and yellowish underparts. These birds are known for their elaborate courtship displays, which involve intricate dances and vocalizations. They inhabit moist, montane forests with dense undergrowth, and are particularly associated with areas of white-sand forest. The Araripe Manakin is threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, as well as potential impacts from climate change and human disturbance.
