Archbold's Bowerbird

Archbold's Bowerbird, Archboldia papuensis, lives in montane western to eastern New Guinea, where it is found in highland forests. It is a passerine in the bowerbird family, first described by Rand in 1940. The male is dark grey with black scalloping and golden yellow crown feathers, while the female is smaller and shows a yellow wing patch without crown feathering. The species also has a brown iris, grey feet and a black bill. It is known to use discarded ornamental plumes from the King of Saxony bird-of-paradise when decorating its courtship bower.
