This species has a mottled brown and gray plumage that provides excellent camouflage against the forest floor. It is primarily insectivorous, feeding on a variety of flying insects that it catches in mid-air using its wide gape. Archbold's Nightjar is typically found in montane forests and adjacent grasslands, where it nests on the ground among leaf litter. Due to its limited range and potential habitat loss, the conservation status of this species is currently classified as Data Deficient by the IUCN.
