Arfak Astrapia, Astrapia nigra, is a bird-of-paradise in the family Paradisaeidae and a passerine that breeds in the Arfak and Tamrau mountains of north-west New Guinea. It is confined to the Arfak Mountains in West Papua. The species was first described by Gmelin in 1788. It is the only member of its kind without recognised subspecies. The bird is known from cloud forest in the upper mountain zone, and the female builds the nest and cares for the chicks. Males display on branches upside-down with the tail held upright.
