Ash-throated Crake

Mustelirallus albicollis

The Ash-throated Crake is a small bird species found in wetlands and marshy areas of South America. It is characterized by its olive-brown plumage, white throat, and short tail. This secretive bird is often heard rather than seen, with its distinctive calls echoing through the dense vegetation. The Ash-throated Crake forages for insects, small invertebrates, and seeds in the undergrowth, using its long toes to navigate the marshy terrain. Although not much is known about its population trends, the species is believed to face threats from habitat loss and degradation.
