Ashy-throated Chlorospingus

Chlorospingus canigularis (Lafresnaye, 1848)

Ashy-throated Chlorospingus, Chlorospingus canigularis, is a passerine of the New World sparrow family that breeds from Costa Rica through Panama, Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela to Peru. It is a resident bird of Middle America and South America, with a scattered range across the Andes and nearby slopes. Its name reflects the pale throat that helps separate it from related forms. The species was first described in 1848 and is now placed in Chlorospingus after earlier treatment in another genus. It inhabits forest, especially wet, mossy woodland, and is usually seen in the canopy and along forest edges.
