Asian Barred Owlet

Otus lempiji

The Asian Barred Owlet (Otus lempiji) is a small owl found in South and Southeast Asia. It has a distinctive barred pattern on its plumage, with a round head and large, yellow eyes. This species is primarily crepuscular and nocturnal, hunting for insects, small birds, and rodents. It inhabits a variety of forested habitats, including tropical and subtropical forests, as well as wooded areas near human settlements. The Asian Barred Owlet is known for its distinctive hooting call, often heard at dusk and dawn. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and deforestation, this species is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List.
