Dryolimnas augusti
August's Rail (Dryolimnas augusti) is a small to medium-sized bird species found in the western Indian Ocean region. It is characterized by its brown and black plumage, with a distinctive white patch on the throat. These secretive birds inhabit dense vegetation in freshwater and brackish marshes, mangroves, and wetlands. They are known for their skulking behavior and are often heard more than seen. August's Rails are primarily insectivorous, foraging among the dense vegetation for invertebrates. Due to habitat loss and degradation, their populations are declining, and they are currently classified as Vulnerable by the IUCN.
