Austral Blackbird, Curaeus curaeus, is a passerine of the Southern Cone in South America, breeding in Argentina and Chile. It belongs to the Icteridae family and was described by Molina in 1782. It is a largely resident bird, with movements into nearby areas, including west-central Argentina and the Atlantic coast of Patagonia. Its main habitats include forests, woodland, lakeshores, beaches, fields, valley bottoms and rocky shores, and it is also recorded in degraded former forest and high-altitude shrubland. It is often seen in small flocks and is known for a varied voice.
