The Austral Parakeet, also known as the emerald parakeet, is a small and colorful parrot native to the southern regions of South America. These parakeets are characterized by their vibrant green plumage, with splashes of red on the wings and a distinctive red forehead. They are highly social birds, often found in flocks, and are known for their playful and energetic nature. Their diet consists mainly of seeds, fruits, and vegetation. They inhabit a variety of forested habitats, including temperate rainforests and montane forests. Despite facing some threats from habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade, the Austral Parakeet is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
