Austral Pygmy Owl, Glaucidium nana, is an owl of the Southern Cone in South America, with its breeding range centred on central and southern Chile and extending into parts of southern Argentina. It occurs from Valparaíso Province and western Argentina south to Tierra del Fuego. In Chile it is recorded from sea level up to 2,000 m. It uses city parks, farmland with scattered trees, forests, thickets, shrublands and Patagonian scrub-steppe. It has grey-brown and red forms, both showing pale brows, yellow eyes and dark false eyes on the nape.
