Australian Bustard

Ardeotis australis

The Australian Bustard is a large, ground-dwelling bird native to Australia and southern New Guinea. It is known for its striking appearance, with a mottled brown and white plumage, a long neck, and a small head. These birds are primarily terrestrial and are often found in open grasslands, woodlands, and savannas. They are omnivorous, feeding on a variety of insects, small vertebrates, and seeds. Australian Bustards are known for their elaborate courtship displays, which involve inflating their necks and vocalizing. Despite their large size, they are skilled fliers and can cover long distances during seasonal movements. The species faces threats from habitat loss and hunting, leading to a declining population in some areas.
