Australian King Parrot

Australian King Parrot, Alisterus scapularis, lives in eastern Australia from north and central Queensland to southern Victoria. It is a parrot of humid, heavily wooded uplands, including eucalyptus country and the edges of subtropical and temperate rainforest. It is also recorded in Canberra in winter, in the outer western and northern suburbs of Sydney, and at Carnarvon Gorge in central Queensland. The species was first described by Lichtenstein in 1816. Two subspecies are recognised, and the northern form is smaller than the nominate.
