Australian Masked Owl

Tyto tenebricosa

The Australian Masked Owl (Tyto tenebricosa) is a nocturnal bird of prey native to Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea. It has a heart-shaped facial disc, dark brown plumage with mottled patterns, and prominent dark eyes. This owl is known for its haunting call and is a skilled hunter, preying on small mammals, birds, and insects. It prefers open woodlands, forests, and grasslands, and can also be found in urban areas. The Australian Masked Owl is a powerful and silent flyer, with a wingspan of up to 1.4 meters. Despite its adaptability, habitat loss and human interference pose threats to its population.
