Ayacucho Thistletail, Asthenes ayacuchensis, is a bird of the ovenbird family found in northern Ayacucho in southern Peru. It is confined to the Department of Ayacucho, west of the Apurímac River, and lives in elfin forest and Polylepis woodland near the tree line, especially where Chusquea bamboo is thick. It is a resident throughout its range. The species was first described in 1972 and is now treated as distinct. Adults have the same plumage in both sexes, and the tail is long, deeply forked, and ragged at the tips.
