Alcedo coerulescens
The Azure Kingfisher (Alcedo coerulescens) is a small, vibrant bird found in the coastal regions of northern and eastern Australia, as well as in New Guinea and Indonesia. This stunning bird is known for its brilliant azure blue and white plumage, with a contrasting orange underbelly. It has a long, sharp bill and a short tail, and is often seen perched on low-hanging branches near water bodies. Azure Kingfishers are skilled hunters, diving into the water to catch small fish and aquatic invertebrates. They nest in burrows along riverbanks and are often solitary or found in pairs. Their distinctive high-pitched calls can be heard near their preferred habitats.
