Thraupis cyanoptera (Vieillot, 1817)

Azure-shouldered Tanager, Thraupis cyanoptera, is a tanager of south-eastern Brazil in the Atlantic Forest. It was described by Vieillot in 1817. Its range runs through southeastern Bahia, eastern Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo to northern Rio Grande do Sul. It uses humid mountain forest, open woodland, secondary growth and forest margins, and occurs up to 1,600 m, though it is usually below 1,200 m. It feeds on fruit, flowers and leaves, with leaf-eating noted as unusual. It forages in flocks of up to 15–20 birds, either mixed or of its own kind.
