Bahama Nuthatch

Bahama Nuthatch, Sitta insularis, lives in the pineyards of Grand Bahama in the Bahamas, with its breeding range in North America. It is a nuthatch and is perhaps extinct. The bird is set apart from the brown-headed nuthatch by a darker brown facial stripe, a longer bill and shorter wings, and it also has a distinctive warbling call. It was once treated as part of Sitta pusilla, but later work recognised it as a separate species.
