Baikal Teal

The Baikal Teal is a small dabbling duck known for its striking and intricate plumage. The male has a distinctive iridescent green patch on its head, a chestnut-colored body, and a black and white patterned back. The female is more subtly colored with mottled brown plumage. These ducks are known for their long migration routes, breeding in eastern Siberia and wintering in East Asia. They prefer shallow freshwater habitats such as marshes, lakes, and wetlands. The Baikal Teal is a species of least concern according to the IUCN, but it faces threats from habitat loss and hunting in some areas.
