Baillon's Crake

Baillon's Crake (Zapornia pusilla) is a small waterbird found in wetlands and marshes across Europe, Asia, and Africa. It has a brown and buff plumage with a distinctive black and white striped face. Baillon's Crake is a skilled swimmer and can be observed wading through shallow water in search of insects, small fish, and aquatic plants. It is a migratory species, breeding in Europe and Asia and wintering in Africa. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and degradation, the global population of Baillon's Crake is currently stable.
