Baillon's toucan

Pteroglossus bailloni

Baillon's toucan (Pteroglossus bailloni) is a medium-sized toucan found in the tropical forests of South America. It is known for its striking appearance, with a black body, bright yellow throat, and a large, colorful bill. These toucans are highly social birds, often seen in small flocks, and are known for their distinctive croaking calls. They primarily feed on fruits, but also consume insects and small reptiles. Baillon's toucans play an important role in seed dispersal within their habitats, contributing to the diversity of plant species. Despite facing threats from habitat loss and capture for the pet trade, their conservation status is currently listed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
