Band-tailed Antshrike, Thamnophilus melanothorax, is a passerine of the antbird family in ne Amazonia, occurring in Brazil, French Guiana, Guyana and Suriname. It was first described by Sclater in 1857. The species is monotypic. It is mainly a bird of the understorey in evergreen forest, and also uses thicker growth in treefall gaps, abandoned clearings, swampy hollows and dense riverside thickets. It is thought to remain in the same area all year and is found from near sea level up to 550 m.
