Band-tailed Cacique

Cacicus latirostris Swainson, 1838

Band-tailed Cacique, Cacicus latirostris, is a passerine of the várzea forests of western Amazonia, from far south-west Colombia through eastern Peru to far western Brazil. It was described by Swainson in 1838 and belongs to the Icteridae. The bird is mainly associated with riverine forest and islands, and has also been recorded in forest on firmer ground close to rivers. Its range lies at low elevations, and it is a resident throughout the year. It is a monotypic species, with a taxonomic history that has included placement in other genera.
