Band-tailed Fruiteater, Pipreola intermedia, is a cotinga of the Andes in Peru and Bolivia, breeding from Peru south into Bolivia. It was first described by Taczanowski in 1884 and is now treated as a full species. It lives in montane forest, both within the interior and along the edges, on the eastern side of the range. The nominate form occurs farther north in Peru, while P. i. signata extends through southern Peru into Bolivia. It is a year-round resident, and some change in altitude is suspected in Bolivia.
