Band-tailed guan

Penelope ochrogaster

The Band-tailed guan (Penelope ochrogaster) is a large bird found in the mountainous regions of South America. It has a dark gray plumage with a distinctive band of white on its tail, and a red dewlap under its bill. This species is known for its loud calls and is often found in flocks foraging in the forest canopy. Band-tailed guans primarily feed on fruits, seeds, and insects. They play an important role in seed dispersal within their habitat. Due to habitat loss and hunting, the Band-tailed guan faces conservation challenges.
