Patagioenas fasciata (Say, 1822)
Band-tailed Pigeon, Patagioenas fasciata, is a pigeon of North, Middle and South America, breeding from south-west British Columbia to north-west Argentina. It is found in higher ground, especially in coniferous forests, oak woodland and scrub. The bird is mainly grey, with a narrow white band on the nape and a purple-grey breast. Adults also show green sheen on the back of the neck, and the bill and feet are yellow. The tail has a pale outer half with a darker band at the base, which gives the species its name.
