Banded Pitta

Neophedina cincta

The Banded Pitta (Neophedina cincta) is a strikingly colored bird found in the forests of Southeast Asia. It is known for its vibrant plumage, featuring a combination of black, blue, and chestnut colors. This medium-sized bird is characterized by its distinctive call and secretive nature, often remaining hidden within the dense undergrowth. Banded Pittas are primarily insectivorous, foraging on the forest floor for insects and small invertebrates. They are known for their elaborate courtship displays and are often associated with old-growth forests with dense vegetation. Despite their striking appearance, Banded Pittas are threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, leading to a decline in their population.
