Bank Cormorant

Phalacrocorax neglectus

The Bank Cormorant (Phalacrocorax neglectus) is a marine bird species found along the coasts of Namibia and South Africa. These cormorants are known for their striking black plumage with a metallic green sheen, and they have a distinctive hooked bill. They are adept divers and can often be seen swimming and foraging for fish in coastal waters. Bank Cormorants nest in large colonies on offshore islands and rocky cliffs, where they build their nests from seaweed and guano. This species is vulnerable to disturbance and pollution, and their populations are declining due to overfishing and habitat degradation.
