Bar-bellied Woodpecker, Veniliornis nigriceps, is a woodpecker of the Andes in South America, breeding from northern Colombia south to Bolivia. It belongs to the family Picidae and is placed in the genus Veniliornis. It lives in humid to wet montane forest, elfin forest and, at times, Polylepis woodland, usually where the undergrowth is thick and Chusquea bamboo is present. It is mainly found between 2,600 and 3,600 m, though it can occur lower and, in Ecuador, higher. It is a year-round resident across its range.
