Bar-winged Oriole, Icterus maculialatus, is a bird of Middle America, breeding from southern Mexico to El Salvador and occurring in Guatemala and Honduras. It belongs to the Icteridae, the family that includes the New World orioles and blackbirds. First described by Cassin in 1848, it is the only member of its type. It is associated with dry oak scrub, pine-oak forest, semi-deciduous woodland and shade coffee plantations. The species is resident rather than migratory, though it may make local movements, and it has been recorded feeding in flowering trees.
