Barau's Petrel

Pterodroma baraui (Jouanin, 1964)

Barau's Petrel, Pterodroma baraui, breeds on montane Réunion in the south-west Indian Ocean and ranges widely at sea outside the breeding season across tropical waters of the Indian Ocean. It is a petrel in the family Procellariidae and was described in 1964. The species is closely tied to Réunion, where most nesting is thought to take place, with only a single nest record from Rodrigues. Its non-breeding range extends from waters off eastern and southern Madagascar to the Arabian Sea and north-western Australian waters.
