Bare-shanked Screech Owl, Megascops clarkii, is an owl of Middle America and north-western Colombia, with its breeding range running from Costa Rica to north-west Colombia. It belongs to the family Strigidae and was described in 1935. It is a large screech owl, and its bare lower leg is a notable feature. It lives in dense, humid mountain forest, cloud forest and forest edges, and it also uses patchy upland woodland. It is found in family-sized groups, even when breeding, and hunts at night. Its prey includes large insects, shrews and small rodents.
