Barred Parakeet

Bolborhynchus lineola

The Barred Parakeet (Bolborhynchus lineola) is a small, slender parakeet native to the Andes of South America. It is characterized by its predominantly green plumage with black barring on the chest and abdomen. These social birds are often found in small flocks and are known for their playful and inquisitive nature. They inhabit high-altitude montane forests and cloud forests, where they feed on a variety of seeds, fruits, and vegetation. The Barred Parakeet is an important seed disperser in its ecosystem. Although not currently considered globally threatened, habitat loss and trapping for the pet trade are potential concerns for their populations.
