Barred Puffbird

Nystalus radiatus (Sclater, PL, 1854)

Bucconidae — Puffbirds

Barred Puffbird, Nystalus radiatus, is a bird of Middle America and South America, ranging from Panama through western Colombia to western Ecuador. It belongs to the puffbird family, Bucconidae, in the order Piciformes. It is a resident of semi-open country at low levels, including forest margins, streamside growth, clearings with scattered trees and the edges of forest paths. In Ecuador it has also been noted on wires in farmland. It is the only member of its genus, and a form called fulvidus is probably just a colour variant.
